Seattle Art Museum seeks candidates who are excited about art and customer service! The Event Gallery Security Officer will provide excellent customer service and security for Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Asian Art Museum, and Olympic Sculpture Park during private venue experiences and museum programming events, while implementing security policies and procedures related to the protection of art, the security of museum facilities, and the safety and protection of staff and visitors. Security experience is not required to apply.

COMPENSATION: $21.68 per hour
BENEFITS: Part-time variable staff are able to enroll in our company’s 403b retirement plan, and will receive paid sick, vacation, and holiday time on a pro-rated basis. Additional benefits include a SAM museum membership, an Tier III American Alliance of Museums membership, and SAM museum store and restaurant discounts.
SCHEDULE: Due to varying demand, Event Security Officers are asked to work different hours every week depending on event schedule. Must be available on holidays and weekends, including late nights. This is event-based scheduling, typically 10-15 hours a week, ideal for students or those seeking additional income.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are primarily inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites, in all types of weather.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Stationary Work: Approximately 95% of time is spent standing or moving around the work area. Balance of time (approximately 5%) is spent stationary while working at a desk. Long periods of sustained standing are required.
Communication: Clear and effective communication with volunteers, donors, members, the public, and co-workers is necessary. May have contact with hostile or abusive members of the public.
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
Moving: The ability to move up to twenty pounds on occasion is necessary for moving files, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to regularly position self to access files. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs in high-rise building.
Office Work: Ability to effectively and regularly operate assigned equipment, including, but not limited to, radios, flashlights, telephones, dispatch software and other equipment, and supplies is necessary.
